RT Infrastructure Solutions (RTIS) has successfully completed the final stage of testing and commissioning activities for the Salford Crescent Third Platform scheme, delivering another key milestone within the Manchester and North West Transformation Programme (MNTP).

The works successfully closed out the remaining testing scope from the original Stage 2 commissioning and brought into operational service the new Correct Side Automatic Selective Door Opening (C-ASDO) beacons and Car Stop Markers installed on Platform 3 at Salford Crescent Station. As Principal Signalling Testing Contractor, RT Infrastructure Solutions undertook all signalling works testing associated with Stage 2A, including verification testing, scheme plan verification and specialist testing of the new Tracklink III C-ASDO beacon equipment to ensure full compliance with Network Rail standards prior to entry into service.

The Salford Crescent Third Platform project forms part of the wider Manchester and North West Transformation Programme, which has delivered infrastructure improvements designed to increase capacity, improve connectivity and enhance network performance across the region. Following the successful commissioning of the associated signalling works in September 2025, the completion of platform construction activities enabled the remaining deferred signalling elements to be commissioned and brought into service.

Led by the RTIS Tester in Charge for the project, the commissioning team successfully completed testing and commissioning of the new C-ASDO beacons, designated SLD3U and SLD3D, together with the installation and operational acceptance of the new Car Stop Markers on Platform 3. The works were delivered in collaboration with Network Rail, Kier and the wider project team, with all testing activities undertaken in accordance with Network Rail Signalling Works Testing requirements. Following completion of the testing programme, the infrastructure was formally signed into operational service, successfully concluding the remaining elements of the Salford Crescent Third Platform signalling scheme.

Andy Thorpe, Managing Director of RT Infrastructure Solutions, said:

“The successful completion of these works demonstrates RTIS’s continued ability to safely deliver complex signalling testing and commissioning activities on live railway infrastructure. We are proud to have supported Network Rail and Kier in delivering this important enhancement at Salford Crescent, which will contribute to improved operational capability and passenger services across the North West network.”

The project further reinforces RTIS’s reputation as a trusted signalling testing and commissioning partner, delivering safe, efficient and technically robust solutions that support the ongoing modernisation of the UK’s railway infrastructure.
