Leading rail technology company Wabtec awarded RT Infrastructure Solutions a contract to undertake all signalling works associated with one of Network Rail’s major CP6 Electrification & Plant schemes, on the London North Eastern (LNE) route.

Works commenced in February 2023 and are expected to last throughout the year, with staged installation and commissioning dates confirmed once the final design has been completed.

The overall project work scope involves the renewal of the signalling power distribution system between Doncaster and Scunthorpe and all associated works which includes: 11 x feeders, 1 x new PSP, Refurbishment of existing Doncaster PSP, 2 x PSP multi-Tx conversions , 3 x new ASPs and 184 new FSPs.

The project will cover some 44,000m of route mileage. Due to the introduction of the new power arrangements, a significant amount of signalling modification work will be required, affecting around 267 location cases. As part of its signalling package, RT-IS will be responsible for undertaking all the signalling correlation, signalling installation, signalling Test and Commissioning and signalling recoveries for the scheme.

The works will lead to significant safety and performance benefits, with existing assets being made compliant with BS7671 and the Electricity at Work Regulations. A dual end feeding arrangement with partial auto-reconfiguration, together with backup generator and UPS, will improve asset availability and reliability.
