St Erth Train Station is a Grade II-listed station situated in Rose-an-Grouse in Cornwall.

Due to passengers at St Ives being served by a Park and Ride station with limited car parking facilities at Lelant Saltings, Cornwall County Council proposed that the Park and Ride facilities be augmented by a “Multi-Modal Hub” (MMH) at St Erth. The MMH scheme altered the bay platform area incorporating Platform 3 and the adjacent bay sidings to cater for anticipated increases in footfall at the station.

Alongside principle contractor Dyer & Butler, RTIS successfully delivered the scope of the works which included all planned signalling enabling and renewal works, including:

  • track circuit alterations
  • train protection & warning system alterations
  • location case renewals
  • new platform OFF indicators
  • new Signallers alarm
  • mechanical alterations to both point and signal rodding
  • alteration to location cases
  • REB and lineside & tail cable renewals.

The work scope included all necessary management, planning, procurement and delivery for the works with installation in accordance with NR/L3/SIG/11303 Signal Installation Handbook and tested in accordance with NR/L2/SIG/30014 Signal Works Testing Handbook and NR/L3/SIG/11231 Signal Maintenance Testing Handbook including all necessary hand back and handover documentation.

The works were delivered by RTIS’s Signalling Project Engineer, Tester in Charge and a number of our IRSE Licensed Signalling Installation / Maintenance and or Testing teams. Our Signalling Project Engineer was engaged early and remained so throughout the works, providing invaluable input during the planning stage and project meetings with both Dyer & Butler and the Network Rail project team.
