After a competitive tendering process, RT Infrastructure Solutions were selected by TFL as their signalling delivery partner for this package of work.

The scope included acting as the Principal Contractor responsible for designing, procuring, installing and test/commissioning new axle counter equipment on Platform 2 at Surrey Quays.

The axle counter equipment was previously situated beneath the newly extended platform, a location agreed to be temporary due to impractical access for maintainers.

While maintainable in the short term, this arrangement was not sustainable for long-term operations and repositioning was required. The axle counter equipment was repositioned beyond the platform extension while retaining the detection point in its current location, with a Rail Contact Adapter installed in- line between the EAK and the SK30H. This allowed for the use of extended tail cables, exceeding the standard 8m length, without compromising detection integrity. During the works, other signalling works were added to the scope including the installation and testing of a new Signal Post Telephone and Car Stop Markers.

All associated signalling installation work was checked by RTIS signaliling supervisors and completed to Network Rail standard NR/L3/ SIG/11303, all checked and authorised by RTIS signalling supervisors. With the relevant hand over certificates passed over to qualified SWTH test teams, all Test & Commissioning was undertaken in accordance with Network Rail standard NR/L2/SIG/30014. To house the new cabling RTIS were also responsible for the associated civils CRE responsibilities, civils design and civils installation deliverables which were managed in line with Network Standards. RTIS successfully installed and commissioned all new signalling and telecoms works to the agreed client budget with zero accidents/incidents reported throughout the duration of the works.
