RT Infrastructure Solutions achieves BS11000 accreditation  

On the 9th October 2014 RT Infrastructure Solutions achieved accreditation to the BS11000 Standard for Collaborative Business Relationships and in turn became only the UK’s 4th rail SME to achieve this accreditation since the standard was introduced in 2011.

The BS11000 standard has been increasingly embraced by a variety of different sectors including  Nuclear, Aerospace, Telecommunications, Ministry of Defence ,The Department for Transport and now more recently Rail. The recent growth in interest within the Rail sector has been fuelled by both opportunities identified within the McNulty report for greater efficiencies within UK Rail and the call from Sir David Higgins in 2011, for a more collaborative approach to help reach the ORR’s efficiency targets.

When the McNulty Report was published in May 2011, it made numerous references to the benefits that collaborative working could bring to the Rail sector and specifically mentioned BS11000 as a tool for achieving it.

The Standard, which is the first its kind and is receiving world wide recognition and interest, offers a framework developed to enhance and strengthen Collaborative Business Relationships. It is developed as a multi-stage process, which builds on an organisation’s existing best practice. - from concept to disengagement. It covers areas such as Awareness Knowledge, Internal Assessment, Partner selection, Working relationship, Additional value creation, staying together and Exit strategy.

Simon Jamieson, RT Infrastructure Solution’ CEO was clearly delighted with the accreditation and commented “RTIS’s biggest challenge has been to take what has predominately been a large company initiative utilised in improving its supply chain relationship, and convert it into an integrated part of an SME’s management system aimed at improving our ability  to identify and establish, where appropriate strong collaborative  relationships with Customers and Suppliers to deliver joint success.

There is clearly much work ahead if we are to realise all the benefits that BS 11000 and collaborative working in general offers the Rail industry, as was so clearly emphasised within the McNulty report. Organisations in the sector will need to gain a full understanding of collaborative working.  They will need to establish collaborative leadership skills and train staff accordingly. New processes will need to be introduced and, critically, new cultures and behaviours will need to be developed.

 One of the key areas of collaborative working is that it seeks to bring companies together to develop fresh and new ideas that can bring benefits to both parties. We are obviously extremely pleased to have achieved accreditation, however although accreditation is reassuring we are just as hopeful that applying the  BS11000 process will reinforce our commitment to seek and  form stronger and lasting relationships with existing and new customers who recognise the benefits of working collaborate”.

RTIS Recruit Signalling Engineers for Western Corridor

RT Infrastructure Solutions (RTIS) is pleased to announce the recent recruitment of a further 5 trainee signalling engineers to add to its growing work force. These additions now mark a grand total of 17 newly recruited engineers over the last 2 year period. We believe this shows a true commitment to finding & developing talented people, often with transferrable skills, into the railway signalling environment. In the years ahead, given further development and training, these engineers will become IRSE licensed signalling supervisors, team leaders, testers and installers.

On this occasion the trainees have been recruited specifically in the Swindon area in order to support the huge amount of signalling work that is planned to take place in the Western Corridor over the next 5 years. Due to the fact that the trainees all reside within travelling distance of key re-signalling areas such as Bristol, Swindon and London, the benefits alone in reduced travel time and working on projects close to home will be absorbed by both our existing and future customers.

The trainees have already successfully passed PTS, Signalling Appreciation, Basic Signalling 1, Electrical Principles 1, Diagram Reading, E.I.S.S, Confined Spaces, Signalling Plant, Manual Handling, First Aid and SPWEE. The courses are designed to be a mixture of both technical and practical assessments, with candidates learning key skills that will be required for their roles working within RTIS signalling teams on the railway infrastructure.

Over the next 12 months there are further plans for increasing and developing our workforce in the Western corridor area.

BSI accreditation for outstanding track record 

We at RT Infrastructure Solutions are delighted to announce the recent notification that our company has earned ISO9001:2008 Accredited Company status. The verification from the BSI Management Systems was made after a successful 3 day audit that took place from 1st – 3rd May 2014.

We have worked very hard to achieve this standard of excellence and consistency across our business, and we would like to acknowledge the contribution of all our staff during the process of attaining these standards. It is our aim to go beyond the call of duty for our customers and this milestone is therefore something that we are extremely proud of. By continuing to maintain an excellent service we hope to continue building strong and lasting relationships with that of our existing and potential customers of the future.

Now that we have achieved ISO9001:2008, it is our aim to focus our efforts on maintaining the standard on an annual basis. Through our documented processes, it is our intention to continually evaluate our business to ensure we maintain and reflect current best practice in the industry. As part of our ongoing company progression we are now in the early stages of developing accreditation to BS11000, which is the BSI standard for collaborative working. We are hopeful of achieving this standard by the last quarter of 2014, and if successful this would be another key achievement to have attained since our inception.

RTIS reach "125" milestone 

In May 2014 we were delighted to achieve a significant milestone for our business by having worked on a total number of 125 railway signalling projects since our inception in 2012. The works have included a diverse range of signalling disciplines that including major re-signalling schemes, signalling support for track renewals works, self- delivered signalling projects, maintenance works, signalling project management and the provision of signalling CRE expertise.

The achievement has been made through the joint efforts of our head office team and direct signalling wrkforce, with a strong emphasis placed on adhering and delivering works to our company values. We continue to work for a multitude of different customers and through a combination of lump sum projects and significant labour frameworks, we hopes to reach the 300 project milestone by the beginning of 2016.

At the same time we are continuing to develop new signalling engineers and also providing further technical training  to our existing signalling engineers. Breirfield Level Crossing completed

As we come to the end of March we have recently finished supporting BAM Nuttall with various signalling installation works associated with their East Lancashire Level Crossing Scheme (ELLC). The 2nd phase of this project was centred around the level crossing at Brierfield, situated close to Burnley, which required various changes to the existing signalling system and controlling signalling  equipment. 

Activities within this project included relay room re-wiring, installation and termination of a new REB, modifications to location cases, wiring changes in Preston Signal Box, installation of treadles and new Lightweight LED signals. The level crossing itself required the installation and termination of all booms & pedestals, RTL’s and yodel alarms which were installed to Network Rail specification.  

As the principal contractor of the main project itself, BAM Nuttall was asked to deliver an upgrade and modernisation to 3 level crossings in the East Lancashire Area along with various civils works that included a platform extension at Brierfield Station. The first phase of the ELLC works began at Low Moor Level Crossing in September 2013 and this was successfully commissioned in December 2013. The last and final stage of the works at Huncoat will begin in September 2014 and are expected to be commissioned In November 2014. 

Throughout both the 1st & 2nd stages of ELLC, RT Infrastructure Solutions signalling staff were highly commended for their commitment, professionalism and high level of workmanship.
